Two Great Events in One . . .
Speed Rocks!
We do things just a bit differently. Before anyone gets to match racing and going head-to-head against each other (See King of the Hill event), we run a time trials-type event to get an official time for each car. We set aside a special track with only one timed lane. Each car entered runs one time only down the same lane so there's never a question of lane-to-lane variations or advantages. An official time is logged and posted immediately. Instantly, you know how your car stacks up against every other car that's already run. Whether you're one of the Top Guns or somewhere closer to the middle of the crowd. THEN, you get your car back so you can run it in other events. (Maybe even the Deathwood Derby™ if you're brave enough to risk everything.)
. . . . . . but being fastest isn't everything!
Turtles get love too!
It's not only about how fast you can go. Just when you think you've figured out everything that's needed to make your car go as fast as possible, here comes another twist - How S - L - O - O - O - O - O - O - W can you go?
If you think going fast is hard, just try to figure out what it takes to be the slowest! Not so slow that you don't make it to the timing gate (Too bad - that's a DNF - Did Not Finish) but still slower than anyone else. Now that's a challenge!
So the Texas Roll Down™ is really a two-in-one proposition. If you're on the ultrafast side of things, you'll be ranked by top speed. But if you want to explore life in the slow lane, your time will also be checked and ranked against the slowest times recorded throughout the day. It's up to you whether you build for Top Gun bragging rights or the elusive Top Turtle™ award. Fastest or Lastest, you can win either way!
Fast. Simple. Fair.
That's all there is to it! Check your car in, hand it to us for documentation and logging, watch for your official time, get your car back, move on to the next MegaDerby event or to the other great Scout Fair exhibits. Check back later in the the day to see how your speed holds up or wait till the awards at the end of the day.
